Crackdown on Bars and Clubs Operating Without Licenses Kicks Off in Uasin Gishu
Ag. Director Alcoholic Drinks Control Board Mr. Koiya Arap Maiyo, led a team of program officers on a crackdown on bars and clubs operating without licenses, selling repackaged alcohol to unsuspecting users and operating before the recommended hours.
Mr. Koiya while assuring Outspan Centre residents of the Governor’s message on ensuring that all residents are safe during this Christmas festivities, noted that the County Government will not relent on the matter.
He noted that the team managed to close down 3 bars operating without licenses in Outspan center and Sugunanga area, arrested fifteen people conducting the illegal supply of alcohol, impounded assorted alcoholic drinks including second generation type that are harmful to the consumers’ health and rescued one resident who was reported to have been unconscious for over 48 hours in one of the bars.
“The crackdown has officially started and anyone who will be found going against thee law will face the full force of the law and his license confiscated,” he said.
The County Government leadership is undertaking the crackdown in all trading centers and residential areas in a bid to create an enabling environment safe for children on holiday as well as ensure that the licensed clubs also sell legal drinks approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS).
