Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii has called on residents to embark on tree planting exercise.

Govenor Bii says the country is witnessing adverse effects of climate change that has resulted to prolonged drought, loss of lives and hunger.

“I am making an appeal to every citizen to embark on tree planting exercise as part of the urgent interventions aimed at mitigating its effects. My government will avail funds and work closely with the national government in ensuring that we green our country and this can be achieved when we tackle climate change as a personal responsibility,” said Uasin Gishu Governor.

The Uasin Gishu second governor called on headteachers to encourage students to plant trees.

” As schools reopen this month, heads should encourage students to actively participate in the tree planting exercise as one way of inculcating them to the culture of protecting our environment. Youths should also form groups and begin setting up tree nurseries because there shall be a huge demand for seedlings when the rains commence,” added governor Bii.

He spoke during interdenominational church service at Koilel primary school grounds in Ainabkoi constituency where the congregation also donated 200 bags of maize through the Save a Life initiative meant to assist citizens faced with hunger in parts of Baringo County.
