CS Health : MTRH is a success story

The Cabinet Secretary Health, Madam Nakhumicha S. Wafula has lauded Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and its leadership for being a model institution in quality healthcare service to Kenyans.

” I am proud of the successful stories emanating from MTRH including the recent successful Kidney Transplant of a patient referred from Burundi. I am impressed with your focused leadership and service delivery. Be assured of our support.”

The CS Health made the remarks during a familiarization tour of MTRH on Tuesday 3rd January, 2023.

During the briefing at CEO’s Boardroom, CS gave an undertaking of Government commitment to construct a 2000-bed Multi-Specialty MTRH at Kiplombe, near Eldoret Airport.

She lauded MTRH for positive labour relations with staff and workers’ unions- Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union
(KMPDU), Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN), Kenya Union of Domestic Hospitality and Health Allied (KUDHEIHA) and Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO).

She called on other healthcare institutions to emulate MTRH so Kenyans can enjoy standardized and quality healthcare across the country.

The CS pledged reforms at National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) while forging a close-working relationship with County Governments in healthcare delivery particularly on Primary Healthcare (PHC).

Speaking during the same function, Uasin Gishu Governor, H.E. Jonathan Bii commended the good working relationship with MTRH on health matters expressing gratitude on AMPATH Revolving Pharmacy now back in operations in the County facilities.

In his remarks, MTRH Board Chair Mr. Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, MBS appreciated support from National Government, Ministry of Health and Development Partners for getting MTRH to be a brand in healthcare.

MTRH CEO, Dr. Wilson K. Aruasa MBS, EBS reiterated that quality of care at MTRH has been realized through; prudent utilization of resources, investment in Human Resources for Health (HRH) , Modernization of Equipment & Infrastructure, Capacity building for Clinical and Corporate Staff and forging Strategic Partnerships and Alliances.

The CS later toured Renal Unit, Hemato-Oncology and Radiotherapy Service points.

Present at the event were; County Commissioner- Uasin Gishu, Dr. Allison Nyali; Deputy County Commander Zaccheus Ng’eno ; CEC Health, Uasin Gishu County Dr. Sam Kotut; Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Mr. Philip Muigei; Majority Leader, Hon. Julius Sang; Hon. Rebecca Jepchirchir- Chair, Health Committee; Mary Gorrety and Carolyne Jerono. Ministry of Health officials in the itinerary were; Steven Sangolo, Undersecretary; Dr. Dorothy Memusi- Director Liaison & Administration and Dr. Bartilol Kigen, representing the Ag. Director General, Ministry of Health.
