Trans Nzoia County Team Wins 10000M
Trans Nzoia County has won the senior women’s 10000M race.
This is after clinching a first and second position in the just concluded North Rift cross country championship held today at the Kenyatta stadium in Samburu county.
Winnie Kimutai and Zenah Chemtai bagged 1st and 2nd positions respectively while Vivian Chemtai was in position 6.
The trio will be part of the team that will represent the north rift region at the Athletics Kenya National Championship to be held at. Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru on 21st January 2023.
In the mixed relay, Trans Nzoia came 2nd giving them a chance to run in the national championship.
Trans Nzoia county was position 3 overall taking the bronze medal.
The event was presided over by Deputy Governor of Samburu H.E. Sameer Gabriel Lenengwesi
This is one way to create peace in the region, he said, pointing out that the event plays a pivotal role in creating peace in the region.
He congratulated the team that was representing the region and gifted them Ksh.100.000.
The director for sports Mrs. Gladys Agala was overjoyed with the performance and assured the players of full support in the other races. According to her, such games promote peace, harmony, and coexistence within communities.
Mr. Robert Kibii who accompanied his counterpart said that the games are critical since competition is one way of nurturing talents.
The winners will represent the North Rift Region on 21st January in the Inter-Regional Cross-country Championship to determine the National team.
