Residents Give County Government Approval to Construct a new sh.500 million Building Headquaters.
Residents of Trans Nzoia on Thursday gave the County Government a nod to put up a building complex that will host the Governor and other departments.
In a public participation,the residents who gave their views at Kitale Museum Hall said on completion,the new County Headquaters will provide essential services to their proximity.
“We are happy with the new idea of coming up with the proposed county plaza where we will get services without making a lot of movements because this is where most of the departments will be moved”said Janet Silali,a resident.
Silali however urged the county government to consider unskilled youth from the area to be given an opportunity to perform menial jobs when the project commences.
Emma Barasa from Sitatunga ward said apart from providing the services at a central point,the new project will beautify the town.
The department of public works on Monday released the architectural design to the department of public service management ,a docket that has allocated funds for the project.
Public service chief officer Kennedy Etiang and his Governance counterpart Sammy Sichangi led the county in receiving views from the residents.
Etiang said after the residents approval of the project,his department will advertise the lucrative tender between one and two weeks.
He said,the new building will give the governor,his team and an entire human resource a conducive environment to deliver services to the people.
“The starting of this project will just act as an industry.It will provide a direct employment of atleast 100 people.Other traders such as food vendors will also have an opportunity to carry out their business”said Etiang.
Sichangi said on completion,the building will have the capacity to accomodate 80% of the departments.
He said the building will be erected on a spacious 10 acre piece of land that is between Teachers Plaza and County Agricultural offices.
Each floor of the six storey building Sichangi said on completion will have a boardroom,a prayer room,a gym space for workers and spacious waiting rooms for members of the public.
He said sh.500 Million has been allocated for the project that is expected to be completed in three years.
Finance CEC Boniface Wanyonyi has indicated that sh.100 Million is available for this financial year while the rest of the money will be budgeted in the new fiscal year.
The architectural design of the proposed building shows that departments with a lot of traffic will take ground floors while departments with less activities will occupy upper floors.
Some of the departments with a lot of activities include procurement,revenue,gender and sports.
The Governor,his deputy,Governance and Public service management departments will occupy second floor.
Currently,the Governor and his deputy operate from the colonial constructed Town Hall structure.
The structure is former kitale municipal headquarters that was renovated and used by former governor Patrick Khaemba.
The structure also accomodates Deputy governor, finance and public service Management departments.
Health Department is situated on Doctors Plaza while trade and water and procurement departments are placed behind kitale police station within Jua Kali area.
Essential communications unit,Revenue and County enforcement units are situated at MEA buildings opposit town Hall,while lands department occupies Ardhi House next to county provincial administration premises.
Gender,Education and sports departments are on social Hall premises while public works is next to Kenya seed,a kilometre away from kitale town.
