Clark Laidlaw has risen from Assistant coach to Head coach for the Hurricanes club
The Hurricanes and New Zealand Rugby (NZR) have made a big announcement of Clark Laidlaw as the
Hurricanes 2024 Head Coach.
The 45-year-old is expected to take up his role after the conclusion of the 2023 DHL Super Rugby from
Jason Holland who is set to move to the All Blacks team as the Assistant Coach to Scott Robertson after
the World Rugby Cup.
Laidlaw had served as the Assistant coach to Mark Hammett and Chris Boyd between 2013 and 2015
before moving to serve as the All Blacks sevens team Head Coach in 2018, He won the 2018 Rugby
World Cup 7s.
Clark’s decision has been met with positive reactions from the NZR officials as they showed their
positivity in Laidlaw’s leadership.
Hurricanes CEO Avan Lee has demonstrated his excitement to work with Clark as he believes he will
bring a unique set of skills and help the club realise its ambitions.
“Having been our assistant coach from 2013-2015, he has established a good relationship with the club
on-field but we are yet to see his cultural influence on our people,” said Avan Lee.
NZR General Manager Professional Rugby and Performance Chris Lendrum has also congratulated
Laidlaw on his new role in the Hurricanes Club.
“Clark is a good example of how different experiences develop our top coaches. He has helped develop
a large number of young men on and off the field and we know he’ll do the same in Hurricanes,” said
Lendrum.
