Dedan Kimathi Foundation Joins Devoted Youth Foundation For Canal Clean Up Exercise in Kayole South, Nairobi
Plastic pollution continues to pose a huge challenge to the safety of human beings as plastics production emit green house gases which contribute to global warming, the plastic waste take too long to decompose, pollute underground water sources while micro plastics end up in the foods and are hazardous to human health when consumed.
As the Nation continues to carry out environment conservation activities to mark the World Environment Week, Dedan Kimathi Foundation joined Devoted Youth Foundation, Nairobi County Government and a few other organizations in a clean up activity in Kayole South Ward. The event organizer; Devoted Youth Foundation, is a committed environmental group sacrificing to improve nature by reversing the injustices done to it.
The activity was carried out to enable smooth flow of water in the canal and sensitize the canal neighbours on the importance of proper management of waste.
Dedan Kimathi Foundation Environment conservation team engaged in the thorough cleaning of the water way by removing the dumped waste most of which was plastics, baby diapers and little organic waste.
“Nature is termed as unforgiving for it responds to justice and injustices done to it. Continued improper dumping of plastics will erode the rivers, lakes and oceans hence catalyse sea rise that might displace people living around water bodies. Plastics release harmful chemicals that might lead to ill health in humans and other animals once consumed.” stated Dedan Kimathi Foundation team leader, Dickson Maina.
Dedan Kimathi Foundation continues to establish environment conservation partnerships and collaborations in cleaning up towns and growing trees. It has committed to continue working hand in hand with the Kayole Youth in pushing proper waste management campaign as a solution to plastic Pollution.
To crown the event, 100 bamboo tree seedlings donated by the Foundation were planted to protect the canal.”
