The steering committee for Devolution visited Uasin Gishu County to oversee the state of preparedness in the county ahead of the first biennial devolution conference.
The conference is scheduled to start from 15th – 19th August and over 7,000 guests are expected to be hosted in the county.
Led by the chair of the committee Governor Ahmed Abdulahi of Wajir who accompanied the team said they are assessing the preparedness of the conference.
“It is a privilege for this county for being chosen to host the event and we’ve seen they have already started the process and there is more work which is needed to be done,” said Abdulahi.
He further explained why the devolution conference is held after every two years.
“In the conference, we discuss issues on how to move our country forward and we try to implement some new ideas and discuss the challenges we faced at the incoming conference,” Abdulahi added.
In addition, Abdulahi further urged the locals who are interested to participate in the event to register themselves in the Council of Governor portal.
Senators represented by Senator Margret Kamar encouraged the locals to participate in the 5-day event.
“I urge youths and women to register and showcase their products and use this opportunity to exchange goods and products from our visitors,” she added
The senator took the opportunity to appreciate the governors for their bold move to devolve resources to the county so that the local people will reap more from devolution.
The County Governor Jonathan Bii highlighted their commitment as the steps they have made in the preparation for the Event.
“We’ve made significant progress in our infrastructure upgrades and our hospitality program to ensure that our visitors get a welcoming experience.
The theme for this year’s devolution conference is Ten years of devolution the present and the future.
They toured the Eldoret Arboretum, a profound symbol of our unwavering dedication to a greener and more sustainable future.
“As we gear up for the upcoming Devolution Conference, our primary emphasis lies in growing trees during the event. Simultaneously, we are working on infrastructural enhancements at the Eldoret Sports Club to ensure its seamless readiness for the forthcoming August event by prioritizing the improvement of key roads in order to guarantee enhanced accessibility,” he added.
