County Launches Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS Screening at Ziwa Town Ship
The Department of Health Services is playing a crucial role in eradicating Tuberculosis (TB) and controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS among the residents it serves and as part of its proactive approach, the department recently launched a screening program at Ziwa Chief’s office in Soy Sub County.
The department is making healthcare services easily accessible to the community by taking the screening program to them to identify individuals who may be infected with TB or HIV/AIDS so that they can receive proper medical attention and care.
According to the County Tuberculosis Coordinator Charles Makwila, Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that primarily affects the lungs and can be spread through the air when an infected individual coughs or sneezes.
” By identifying and treating individuals with TB, the Department of Health Services can prevent the further spread of the disease within the community,” says Makwila.
On his part, County Aids and STIs Coordinator Daniel Bett HIV/AIDS is a viral infection that weakens the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to various illnesses that are transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse, sharing needles, or from mother to child during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding.
” The screening program aims to identify individuals living with HIV/AIDS so that they can receive appropriate treatment and support, as well as prevent new infections
thus offering preventive strategies like prep to eligible clients during the outreach,” adds Bett.
Through such initiatives, the Department of Health Services is taking proactive measures to end tuberculosis and manage the spread of HIV/AIDS among its clients and by detecting and treating cases early, they are safeguarding community health and contributing to the overall well-being of its population.
