Eldoret: Youths Urged to Refrain From Demonstrations
Uasin Gishu Youth Bunge president Kelvin Kipleting has urged youths to refrain from being used in the ongoing demonstrations by the opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during the Eldoret Youth cleanup exercise Kipleting says youths should not allow themselves to be used by self-centered politicians for their political gains.
He says this is a plan to make Eldoret the Cleanest City as a small way of supporting the devolution conference by the youths and also mitigating climate change.
Led by the Uasin Gishu youth president Kevin Kipleting who was accompanied by his colleagues from Kericho County and Narok County.
“ I want to advise my fellow youths not to allow yourselves to be used by self-centered politicians in protests to throw stones and cause destruction of properties in the Country,” said the youth president.
He added that the clean-up exercise is to support the county in the preparation of the devolution conference.
“Today we’ve come to plant trees and clean the town as a way of supporting our Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration in the preparation for the devolution conference which is around the corner,” he added.
His sentiments were echoed by the Kericho Youth President, Lorna Cherono “Instead of us( youths) going for demonstration we should be empowering ourselves in engaging in activities that brings us together such as this( tree planting Exercise), we are saying No to Demonstration and we should stop being used by our leaders,” said Cherono.
She says Youths should refrain from being politicians’ puppets but instead do constructive things.
Youths have been mostly used by leaders to Cause unrest which leads to the loss of lives and destruction of properties, hence leading to Economic Sabotage.
The leaders also want the youths to engage in activities that make them busy and productive.
“ Demonstration is not a good thing to engage in, and as youths, we should do activities that give back to the society and this will help us to progress in our lives, and empower ourselves,” Said James the Youth president for Narok County.
Simat, MCA Moses Kebenei who is also the Chair of Physical Planning in Uasin Gishu County, said that they have prioritised youths as service providers during the conference.
“ Today we held a meeting with the devolution Committee in the county and we agreed that the Uasin Gishu youths will be prioritized to provide services and they will focus on the youths who are around the tertiary institutions in the county,” Kebenei Explained.
The youths from other Counties have pledged to follow the steps of the Uasin Gishu county youth leader Kelvin Kipling.
