Governor Lusaka, Natembeya Urges to Solve 𝐍𝐙𝐎𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐂𝐎 Squabbles Amicably and Report Back to Senate
Bungoma governor Kenneth lusaka and his Transnzoia counterpart George Natembeya, have been called upon to solve amicably NZOWASCO squabbles and report back their resolution to the Senate within 30 days.
The Senate’s committee on public investment chaired by Vihiga senator Godfrey Otsosti made the resolutions after interrogating governor lusaka, his CEC water and natural resources Kibunguchi Herbert , CEC Finance Chrispinus Barasa and NZOWASO CEO Mathews Maruti.
Natembeya appeared before the same committee a few months ago.
During the hearing, Bungoma governor told the committee that he wasn’t opposed to the request by Transnzoia to secede but noted that underlying issues about ownership and liabilities be resolved first.
” This divorce is invertible, we are however asking for some more time so that underlying issues are resolved, ” Said lusaka.
He noted that while Bungoma had the largest share holding since the time of defunct local authorities some audit report had erroneously indicated that Transnzoia was the majority share holder.
Bungoma senator Wafula Wakoli said Bungoma was the greatest share holder and the divorce shouldn’t make innocent citizens of both counties suffer for lack of water.
” As you retreat for an amicable solution let’s ensure that citizens don’t lack water, ” Said Wakoli.
Transnzoia county want to have their own company and have even gone ahead to register it. This will however need to get the nod of regulating bodies like WARMA .
The two counties have already formed a task force to check on best modalities of separating the two companies and the current share holding.
The PIC Senate Committee also recommended that the task force completes its work and handover the recommendations with the two governors reporting back in 30 days .
The task force has four members from each county.
