Team to review Bungoma County Health Services Act 2019 Inducted

Bungoma County government has initiated a process to review and amendment of the health services act 2019.

Governor Ken Lusaka says it is long overdue and the Act needs to be reviewed to fit into the current changing financial plans.

While speaking on his behalf in a Webuye hotel during the induction of the Taskforce on the review and amendment of the Bungoma County Health services Act 2019, health and sanitation CEC Dr Andrew Wamalwa, Lusaka said change is inevitable and admits the team will do a great job.

“To the Taskforce members, this is a very important task to my legacy in the health sector of this county, as you set out to undertake your duties the greatest mistake you could make is to focus on today’s challenges within the health sector, do not lose sight of the future of our health sector in your reviews,” read the speech.

Lusaka added that the exercise you are about to undertake is not just about finding solutions to the current challenges we are facing in the health department but it is also a task on your shoulders to develop a vision for our health sector in the County.
During the induction course, the task force members were also offered letters of appointments as per the gazette notice.

He said that after the enactment by the county assembly of the 2019 Bungoma County Health services which was also assented by the governor into law to enable the department of health and sanitation offer adequate, quality, affordable accessible health care services to county residents, it was realized that it had huge gaps.
“In the process of its operationalization, the department received feedback from various stakeholders including relevant departmental committees of the county assembly of Bungoma, unions, civil society organizations, health workers and development partners, which pointed to glaring gaps to be addressed,” read the speech.

In order to identify the gaps, Lusaka has appointed 15 task force members chaired by a renowned human rights litigant Prof.Nyukuri Kundu Barasa and members drawn from from various professional and occupational backgrounds for a period of 20 days commencing 11th August 2023 to undertake the task and submit a comprehensive report under the supervision and guidance of health and sanitation CECM.

The team will carry out a comprehensive review of the Bungoma County Health Services Act, 2019 in terms of its operationalization l, achievements in attaining the health and sanitation sector goals and departmental objective, especially with guaranteeing adequate and highest attainable standards of health care services to residents of Bungoma and the country at large.
