Athletics Pulls Bug Fanfare as Eldoret Wakes Up For Devcon
Eldoret lived to the billing by staging a thrilling sports showpiece as the curtains of the 2023 Devolution Conference rolled up in Eldoret.
Otherwise respected globally as the mecca of athletics, Eldoret pulled a fanfare of up to 3000 people who milled by the roadsides to watch the Devolution Conference 5km Run.
Elite athletes, governors, senators and other dignitaries competed in the race that ushered in the conference in style.
Host Governor Jonathan Bii, his Trans Nzoia and West Pokot counterparts, George Natembeya and Simon Kachapin respectively, and a host of deputies participated in the race.
Later on in the evening, Kipchoge Keino Stadium hosted a football match pitting the Council of Governors and the Senate, the county chiefs losing to the parliamentarians 3-0. The match was well-spectated.
