CS Linturi Visits a Young Farmer in Kiplombe

Cabinet Secretay for Agriculture Linturi visited Edwin Ruto, a 35 year old maize farmer in Kiplombe Ward, Turbo Sub-county in Uasin Gishu County to asses the positive effects of the government fertilizer subsidy program.

Ruto who’s a beneficiary of the Kenya Kwanza’s 1st phase of Subsidized Fertilizer distribution has put his three acres under maize production and he expects to harvest over 40 bags of maize per acre up from 25 bags.

“The youthful farmer has also benefited from the KALRO Extension Program, an e-extension service from which he receives intergrated agro-weather and market updates that informs his decisions at farm level. Through the e-extension Service, farmers receive context-specific agro-weather and market advisories covering over 200 agricultural value chains on 2,245 Climate Smart Technologies, innovations and Management Practices,” said Linturi.


He noted that digitalization ranks highly in Kenya Kwanza’s Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

“The agricultural sector has fully aligned and prioritized it as the most important enabler in Kenya’s food systems transformation pathways,” he added.

Th CS was accompanied by Crops PS Kello Harsama and his Livestock counterpart Jonathan Mueke.
