Governor Natembeya Plans For Farmers
Trans Nzoia County Governor George Natembeya is negotiating with Agricultural aggregators to purchase maize from local farmers.
He says this will prevent exploitative middlemen who exploit weather conditions to profit at farmers’ expense.
“I call upon farmers to be patient and introduce regulations governing green maize sales to curb theft,” said Natembeya.
He said his administration plans to double the allocation of resources for essential farm inputs and hire 160 extension officers to sensitize farmers on crop and livestock management practices.
“The aim is to ensure farmers can cultivate their maize without the constant threat of theft,” he said.
He said his administration has taken significant strides to help our farmers diversify their sources of income.
“We’ve initiated a crop diversification program that encourages farmers to cultivate a variety of crops, including coffee, tea, tissue culture bananas, and macadamia.
He noted that his administration remains dedicated to subsidizing the cost of seedlings for these crops, ensuring that more farmers can reap the benefits of this program.
“Together, we’re sowing the seeds of prosperity for our community,” he added.
