In a significant move towards improving service delivery and addressing pending cases, Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration has joined forces with the judiciary to establish an Alternative Justice System (AJC) court in Moiben Sub-county.

This collaborative effort, aligned with Governor Bii’s Nguzo Kumi Manifesto, aims to provide better access to justice for residents.

During a recent site visit, Hon. Justice Professor Joel Ngugi, Chairman of the National Steering Committee of AJC and a Judge in the Court of Appeal, highlighted the importance of the partnership in alleviating congestion in the environment and land courts. These courts have been grappling with a backlog of pending cases over the years.

The implementation of the AJC involves involving third-party institutions such as village elders, leaders of Nyumba Kumi groups, and community land management committees. These bodies, along with the National Land Commission, play a crucial role in addressing matters related to land and natural resources management, ensuring equitable access to justice.

Moiben Sub-County Administrator Moses Kangogo, accompanied by Principal Administrative Officer Robert Limo represented the county officials during the site visit.

Notable figures such as Hon. D. Mikoyan Chief Magistrate of Eldoret Law Courts, Mrs. Jemimah Aluda from the AJC National Secretariat, and Abigael Chepkoech, Court Administrator and Eldoret High Court liaison person, were also present to witness this important initiative taking shape.
