State Department for Lands, NLC and Stakeholders to Fast track the Implementation of community land Act
The state Department for Lands and Physical Planning is working closely with the National Land Commission (NLC) and other stakeholders to implement the Community Land Act and see that many title deeds are issued.
Principal Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning Generali Nixon Korir this morning said that despite the challenges, it’s the mandate of his office to speed up the issuance of title deeds to the public.
PS Korir spoke on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works Housing and Urban Development Zachariah Njeru.
The CS was invited as the Chief guest during the Launch of the report on Monitoring the Transition of Group Ranches to Community Land in Kenya.
PS Korir said his department will
continue engaging with NLC in the finalization of the transiting of the remaining undissolved Group Ranches to Communities.
“We have done sensitization for a long time, it is now time that we channelled our resources for implementation and transition of the remaining Group ranches,” said PS Korir.
He however cited some of the challenges facing the transition process including the fact that it has taken long for most County Governments to confirm if inventories submitted have community concurrence (public participation) thus affecting the inventory process.
Korir also stated that negative ethnicity and intra and inter-county boundary disputes were leading to conflict and slowing the process.
Environment and Land Court Presiding Judge Justice Oscar Angote, Board of NAMATI Kenya Husna Mbarak and NLC Chairman Gershom Otachi were among the guests who attended the launch event.
