Uasin Gishu commemorates Global Hand Washing Day in Langas Day
The County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company and Freshlife on Friday joined the world in commemorating 2023 Global Hand Washing Day to promote good hygiene practices.
The commemoration took place at Langas Primary School and Kisumu Ndogo Estate in Langas Ward, Kapseret Sub County targeted both the school-going children and the wider community thus creating awareness and promoting behaviour change among all members of society.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Abraham Serem highlighted the significance of hand washing in maintaining hygiene, emphasizing that hand washing is a simple act that can have a significant impact on preventing the spread of diseases.
“As we commemorate this day, we aim to educate the pupils and the community about the proper hand washing techniques and to instil the habit of hand washing in their daily routines,” said Dr Serem.
Clinical Services Chief Officer Dr Joyce Sang noted that there is a need to strengthen partnerships to promote good hygiene practices thus demonstrating Governor Jonathan Bii’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of the residents of Uasin Gishu County.
This year’s theme for Global Hand Washing Day is “AFYA YAKO, JUKUMU LAKO! NAWA MKONO KILA WAKATI,” which translates to “Your Health, Your Responsibility! Wash your hands at all times.” emphasizes the individual responsibility in maintaining personal hygiene and the importance of hand washing as a simple yet effective way to prevent diseases.
