ROAM Officially Commences Bus Operations Of their Electric Shuttle Bus, The Roam Move.
Kenya electric mobility company ROAM announces the official start of its bus operation which seeks to promote sustainable transport in the country. The buses are locally assembled and currently the local content is about 45% of the cost of the bus.
Kenya Power plays a key role in powering e-mobility and according to the Director Institute of Energy Studies and Research, Dr Jeremiah Kiplagat, the milestone that Roam has made is a commendable and is a big step in promoting the growth of E-Mobility and greening of our Country.
“We as Kenya Power, we are keen on supporting e-mobility initiatives and we have established a dedicated team to address requests from the customers in order to ensure utilization of grid power which is almost 100-percent green especially when charging takes place at night,”Said Dr Kiplagat.
Kenya Power pledges to systematically improve the state of power infrastructure countrywide, and in the next one year, According to the company, it has committed Ksh 19 Billion towards strategic investments, including the construction of new substations and power lines.
He has further said that Kenya Power is working with government and other stakeholders to develop and enabling legal and regulatory environment for the growth of e-mobility and promotion of local motor manufacturing industries in Kenya is a great move.
In addition to mitigation of climate change the IESR Director noted that Electric bus will help in mitigating noise pollution and hence promotion of a peaceful environment.
“The start of the electric shuttle bus operation promises a quieter, cleaner, and more economical way to get around the city, especially with rising fuel prices and the urgent need to reduce the carbon footprint generated by the transport sector,”Said Dr Kiplagat.
The Roam Company is rooting to save on customer’s transport expenses with the rising fuel prices amid high inflation rates.
“We will support effectively e-mobility customers who require power connection including transformer upgrade and metering to ensure that there are no delays, we are also looking forward to a point where we have 100% green power mix in the near future so that electric vehicles can utilize green power and help in realization of a more cleaner environment,” Said Director Kiplagat.
