Mandera South MP Thoughts on Flooding Areas

0

The Mandera South Constituency MP is pushing for expeditious relief efforts in flood-hit parts of Mandera South Constituency, where the situation remains dire. it is a race against time to reach the affected close to 30,000 people in Elwak, Shimbir Fatuma, Wargadud, Borehole 11 and Kotulo.

This afternoon, an aerial assessment of the Kotulo bridge (linking Wajir to Mandera) was done. The intention is to assess how the bridge swept by torrents from Lagsure could be opened to ease movement of people and goods into Mandera County.

The Constituency office is carrying out some assessment on the affected 5000 people in Elwak with the hope of helping in relieving some of their pressing needs. Most of them live in make-shift shelters. Some have moved to schools and have occupied classrooms at a time when schools are in session.

We will continue collaborating with the Office of Mandera County Governor and Senator to coordinate any support coming to the ground.
