CS Njeru Leads Tree Planting in Kiambu County
Following the recent Cabinet approval to set aside Monday 13th November as National Tree Growing Day, President Dr. William Samoei Ruto led the entire country in the exercise at Kiu Wetland, Makindu, Makueni County as Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Zacharia Njeru accompanied by PS water and sanitation Julius Korir, led Ministry officials and SAGAS in Kiambu County for the same exercise.
The event took place at Kamweru 11 compartment Forest that brought together other stakeholders including the County government of Kiambu led by the Deputy Governor Rosemary Njeri Kirika in growing tree seedlings. Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s speech was read by a representative from his office that encouraged conservation efforts to Kamweru 11 compartment Forest in the same spirit like that of the late Prof.Wangari Mathai.
Before the growing of the tree seedlings, the CS Njeru appealed to all residents in Kiambu and by extension countrywide, to develop a culture of growing trees in whatever occasion they were involved in. He further stressed out that residents who get involved in catchment restoration will definitely reap big in terms of water use of good quality and quantity while at same time minimizing the regional and global effects of climate change.
The CS led the team in the tree growing exercise that also included officials from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry and Ministry of Roads and Transport, among other stakeholders.
