Governor Natembeya’s Cup Ends in Epic Tie, Two Champions Crowned as Transzoia Eyes Sporting Glory
Trans Nzoia County witnessed a historic Governor’s Cup final as football giants Kapsara FC and Sikhendu FC locked horns in a nail-biting match that ended in a dramatic stalemate today evening at the Ndura sports Complex, attended by thousands of spectators.
Despite the draw, the two teams shared the coveted title and the combined Ksh 1.5 million prize money for positions 1 and 2, highlighting the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie that dominated the tournament.
While the men’s game ended in a draw, the women’s final was a goal-fest, with Sinyereri Fc outclassing Royal Starlets 3-2 in a display of skill and power.
Luis Ingavi won a motorbike for being the tournament’s top goal scorer.
The tournament, which saw 250 teams compete for glory, proved to be a breeding ground for talented players, both men and women, who will now be nurtured to represent Trans Nzoia on the local, national, and international stage.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, in his closing remarks, reiterated his vision of transforming the county into a powerhouse of sporting talent.
He pledged to enhance talent discovery and nurturing through increased budget allocation for the sports department, complete the construction of the 20,000-seater ultramodern stadium complex, and equal attention to various sporting disciplines beyond football.
The Governor’s Cup was acknowledged as a crucial step towards achieving Trans Nzoia’s sporting aspirations. HE Raila Amollo Odinga, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and DAP Party Leader Eugene Wamalwa graced the occasion lauding the governor for initiating programs that will benefit hundreds of youths.
Governor Natembeya observed that with a commitment to infrastructure development, talent identification, and equal opportunities for all sports, Trans Nzoia is set to become a major force in the Kenyan sporting arena.
