Kericho Receives Subsidized Fertilizer
Kericho County yesterday received a consignment of 5400 bags of government subsidized fertilizer at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Kericho Depot for early bird planting in the anticipated long rains.1800 bags will be dispensed at the Kericho Depot while 3600 will be distributed equally by both Kedowa and Fortenan depots.
At hand to receive the consignment was Kericho County Commissioner Mr.Gilbert Kitiyo flanked by the Agriculture Chief Officer Betsy Chebet representing the County Government of Kericho.
During the ceremony the Chief Officer revealed that the County Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with NCPB have identified distribution centers in the sub county offices and wards to ensure that our farmers do not have to travel long distances to access the fertilizer.
Kericho has approximately 155,570 registered farmers for the subsidy programme with thousands in declared acreage.
The County Chief Officer also encouraged Farmers to retain the collection notification message(s) received from Safaricom while those who have not registered are advised to register at the nearest depots.
The Government of Kenya seeks to distribute 12.5 million bags of fertilizer this year boosting maize production towards a target of 72 million bags by 2027 up from 61 million registered this year reducing food imports by 75 percent.
