Mining rising! In another monumental milestone in the sector

The PS Mining Elijah Mwangi accompanied CS, Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs
Salim Mvurya to commission a fleet of 10 vehicles to boost the logistical and operational capacity of the field offices across Kenya.

The CS noted that the major reforms currently undertaken by the department were to streamline the sector and he invited investors to take advantage of the conducive environment in Kenya to set up mineral investments locally. He said the reforms would increase transparency and make the sector safe, profitable and attractive for investors.

He hailed the support offered by the security agencies to help in enforcing the mining laws to weed out criminals from the sector. The CS further asked artisanal miners to join marketing cooperatives for support.

In another monumental milestone, the PS Mining Elijah Mwangi led senior officials to accompany the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs H.E. Salim Mvurya for the commissioning of first batch of 10 vehicles to reinforce the logistical capabilities for the mining sector.

The vehicles are a part of wide-ranging logistical, human and technical support currently being deployed by the department to bolster capacities and position mining sector as one of main fulcrum for Kenya’s economic development.

The CS stated that enhancing and strengthening the operational capacity of the mining department would help transform the sector and strategically put it at a vantage point of becoming a key mainstay of Kenya’s social-economic growth.

The vehicles are expected to enhance speed and efficiency in undertaking the surveillance and monitoring by the field officers for compliance and help identify illegal mining operations, especially those located in hard-to-reach areas, for appropriate action.
The CS noted that the major reforms currently undertaken by the department would streamline of the sector and called upon investors to take advantage of the conducive environment in Kenya to set up mineral investments locally.

He added that activities geared towards enforcement would be significantly enhanced with the support of Mining Police Unit; a special unit attached to the department to supplement the operations of field officers.

He further stated that the reforms in the sector targeted to increase transparency and make the sector safe, profitable and attractive for investors. He also hailed the cooperation between the sector and security agencies across Kenya in enforcing the mining laws and weeding out lawbreakers and criminals from the sector.
Noting that the sector has become a central source of livelihood for thousands in Kenya, the CS urged artisanal miners to join artisanal marketing cooperatives in their respective region to allow for proper planning, mapping and support.
