Ray of Hope as Kocholia Sub County Hospital Gets Back It’s Utility Vehicle

The Kocholia community in Teso North Sub County is in ecastic mood after the county government of Busia returned the utility vehicle that was domiciled at the County Government headquarters in Busia Town.

Deputy Governor H.E Arthur Odera handed over the keys of the double cabin vehicle to the Kocholia Sub County Hospital Medical of Health Dr Evans Kiplagat Sumbeiywo, to herald a new dawn for the facility.

The DG who is also the CECM for Health and Sanitation Services said Kocholia Sub County Hospital is strategically located along the A104 Road that links Kenya with the Great Lakes regio nations, including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DR Congo and Southern Sudan.

” The Hospital also serves Bumula Constituency in Bungoma, Teso North and parts of Eastern Uganda with many patients seeking treatment at the health facility,” H.E Odera said.

He added:” The hospital has faced challenges owing to lack of a utility vehicle, which is a vital service to area residents. The health facility has also faced challenges arising from rampant thefts with people gaining entry because of lack of perimetercfence. Construction of the perimeter wall is underway.”

Hon.Odera said they discussed a variety of issues, including health situation at the hospital and promotion of 900 health workers across the county, whose outcome will be unveiled soon.

The Deputy Governor disclosed that the County Government delivered a consignment of drugs to the hospital two weeks ago, noting that it will continue bettering health services in various hospitals across the county.

He noted that they will launch a vigorous campaign, starting April 26th, 2024, on non communicable diseases at each sub county and wards in order to promote good health and good living habits, increase life expectancy of the people, and reduce cost of living.

Chief Officer Medical Services and Universal Health Care Dr Wilberforce Lusamba said it was a good day for the hospital to get a utility vehicle, which he noted will solve challenges facing the health institution interms of mobility.

Dr Lusamba revealed he will convene a meeting with nurses on Friday this week to discuss, on matters promotions and salary arrears, to avert industrial actions.

The MoH Dr Sumbeiywo said the utility vehicle will improve service delivery at the hospital. He also disclosed that the program on nets distribution, funded by the county and national governments and other partners, will be launched soon.

He urged residents living in the sub county to register enmass so as to get the nets geared towards the fight against Malaria, noting that Malaria is the leading in Teso North.

Malaba South Member of the County Assembly Bonface Mamai thanked the DG for returning the utility vehicle, availing drugs to the health facility and and assurance that the new health management community chaired by James Idewa will be gazetted soon.

The MCA said the county government has listened to cries from the residents by returning the utility vehicle, promising to fastback the FIF Bill that is already in the Assembly.
