The Family Group Foundation Emerges Second Re unnqts Up For the Best Impact Investing Initiative Award
The Family Group Foundation has emerged second runners up in the Best Impact investing Initiative award category at the 6th edition of the Annual National Diversity and Inclusion Awards and Recognition (DIAR Awards).
The Foundation was recognised for its steadfast efforts in empowering women in informal settlements through technical, vocational & entrepreneurial skills development in construction.
“This award is a testament to our long hours of hard work, commitment, dedication and more importantly our passion to transform lives and livelihoods. Through our shared value initiative in construction, we avail employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for young women by training them with the necessary skills needed to work in this industry,” said The Family Group Foundation Executive Director John Waimiri.
Through the USAID Tumikia Mtoto programme, the Foundation has trained and certified over 500 young women and girls aged 18 to 24 in technical and vocational skills in plumbing, electrical and painting. The beneficiaries are also equipped with entrepreneurial skills, financial literacy skills and crucial soft skills in communication needed as they transition to the job market.
“This shared value initiative has been instrumental in transforming the lives of young women in informal settlements. This award therefore serves as a call to passionate individuals and organizations to continue the pursuit for an equal and sustainable society,” he said.
The Family Group Foundation in 2023 was also awarded the Community Empowerment Leader Award at the inaugural 2023 Kenya ESG Awards in recognition of its multifaceted approach to empowerment, which includes initiatives focused on environmental conservation, education, and technical training for vulnerable groups.
