The Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Prof Edward Kisiang’ani, has said the Ministry will support reforms initiated at the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board (KYEB) by Board Chairman Sande Oyolo and CEO Lilian Kimeto.

Prof Kisiang’ani, who was speaking during a meeting with KYEB Board of Directors, the CEO and management, said the reforms that includes empowering the institution to generate its own revenue will enable it to communicate better the government’s Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The five pillars of BETA are Agriculture, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Economy, Housing and Settlement, Healthcare and the Digital Superhighway and Creative Economy.
“The success stories on the achievements made under these pillars, for instance in agriculture where food production has gone up, have to be done through government agencies. KYEB is one of the agencies to do this,” Prof Kisiang’ani said.

He noted that through the reforms, KYEB would be able to adopt a new administration structure, embrace innovative publishing technologies, digitise all it’s products and market them using innovative approaches and carry out institutional Strengthening approaches such capacity building for employees.
“We will support the institution as a government so that Kenya Yearbook can
create jobs and make its own money. We don’t want it to continue depending on the State for financial resources,” he said.

Prof Kisiang’ani thanked the Board Chairman, Directors and the CEO for coming up with the ideas to better KYEB, adding that they would be presented to the Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and later to the Cabinet for consideration.

“Most challenges that KYEB faces are not unique to it. Some of them can be solved internally but the rest we will help them as a Ministry,” he said.

Prof Kisiang’ani said KYEB’s prowess in publishing information on government programmes, projects and achievements, including through MyGov newspaper, would be publicised for brand visibility.

Mr Oyolo thanked the PS for taking time to attend the meeting, listening to KYEB’s new vision and supporting the transformation journey.

He invited the PS to visit the institution at a later date for a familiarisation tour.

Ms Kimeto assured the PS that KYEB will tell the story of the soul of Kenya as well communicate the government achievements.
