In solidarity with those affected by the ongoing floods sweeping across the nation, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has stepped forward to contribute to a nationwide effort to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Today, the hospital joins hands with government officials, led by Principal Secretaries Chris Kiptoo of the National Treasury and Harry Kimtai of Health, alongside Elgeyo Marakwet County’s Governor Wisley Rotich, Senator William Kisang, and MP Gideon Kimaiyo, in a concerted tree planting exercise.

Under the leadership of Acting CEO Dr. Philip Kirwa, the MTRH team has taken the initiative to plant trees in Kimwogo Forest, located in Elgeyo Marakwet County. This proactive step not only demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also underscores the urgent need for collective action in the face of climate change.

Speaking on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Kirwa emphasized the importance of tree planting in combating the adverse effects of climate change, stating, “As a healthcare institution, we recognize the significant impact of environmental degradation on public health. By planting trees today, we are investing in a healthier and more resilient future for our communities.”

The tree planting initiative is part of a broader national campaign aimed at fostering environmental conservation and enhancing the quality of life for citizens. Through such collaborative efforts, stakeholders across various sectors are working together to address the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change.

As the tree planting continues in Elgeyo Marakwet County, MTRH remains committed to playing an active role in environmental stewardship, setting an example for other institutions and communities to follow in the pursuit of a sustainable future.
