Indian Delegate Champions Paid Period Leave at UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi

Ms. Ranjeeta Priyadarshini, a delegate from India, seized the stage at the United Nations Civil Society Conference 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, advocating for Paid Period Leave (PPL) for working women worldwide.

Over the course of the two-day event, Ms. Priyadarshini passionately addressed the assembly, emphasizing the significance of PPL and its implementation to achieve equity in the workplace.

Amongst esteemed officials and delegates, Ms. Priyadarshini presented her campaign for PPL to key figures including Mr. Gunnar Andreas Holm, the Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya, and Ms. Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UN Women Deputy Executive Director. She also extended her gratitude to supporters such as Mr. Suraj of the Fularani Foundation and Ms. Monalisa, whose contributions facilitated her attendance at the conference.

Furthermore, Ms. Priyadarshini highlighted the distinction between PPL and sick leave, underscoring the necessity for policies that recognize the unique challenges faced by women in the workforce. She commended Dr. Ekrah Ndungu for pioneering PPL implementation in Kenya, setting a precedent for other organizations to follow suit.
