In a bid to fulfill Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s pre-election promise of providing adequate water access to Uasin Gishu residents, the Department of Water, Irrigation, and Sanitation has handed over several vital water projects to contractors. Among those present during the handover ceremony were Segero/Barsombe Member of County Assembly, Hon. Nathan Malamoch, Ward Administrator Mr. Jacob Bitok, and County Water Engineer Celestine Kigen.

The projects, including the Kapngetuny, Segero Centre, and Segero/Moiben Water Projects, aim to bring reliable water sources closer to households, thereby enhancing livelihoods through improved irrigation and daily water usage. The Kapngetuny Water Project, for instance, is slated to serve over 150 households, including schools and dispensaries in the area, by repairing crucial infrastructure like the sump and pump house, along with installing approximately 21km of pumping main and fencing.

Similarly, the Segero Centre Water Project, upon completion, is expected to benefit around 200 households, encompassing essential public amenities such as schools, churches, and police posts. Additionally, the Segero/Moiben Water Project is set to cater to over 100 households, ensuring access to water for vital community institutions like schools and places of worship.

During the handover ceremony, Hon. Nathan Malamoch emphasized the importance of quality work and adherence to project timelines by the contractors. He urged locals to take ownership of the projects, maintain positive relationships with the contractors, and uphold discipline throughout the project’s duration.

With these initiatives, Uasin Gishu County is taking significant strides towards fulfilling its commitment to providing accessible and reliable water resources, ultimately improving the quality of life for its residents.
