In a significant stride towards infrastructural advancement, Trans Nzoia County’s Chief Executive Committee (CEC) for Lands, Physical Planning, Housing, and Urban Development, Janerose Nasimiyu Mutama, has confirmed the steady advancement of the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase 2 (KISIP 2).

The announcement was made during the Community Public Consultative Team (CPCT) induction training held in Nakuru, underscoring the project’s alignment with the anticipated development trajectory.

Ms. Mutama highlighted the invaluable exchange of experiences with Nakuru County, emphasizing how it has been instrumental in addressing common challenges and steering the project towards success. The collaborative efforts were particularly evident during a benchmarking visit to Nakuru’s Free Area, where significant KISIP 2 works are currently in progress.

Jane Murioki, the KISIP coordinator for Nakuru County, shed light on the obstacles encountered, including delays in accessing counterpart funds and the complexities of managing community grievances within informal settlements. She noted that unforeseen costs associated with relocating utilities such as power poles and sewage lines have posed significant challenges to both counties.

Dr. Roselyne Nasiebanda, Trans Nzoia’s Chief Officer, emphasized the mutual benefits derived from such partnerships, stating that sharing experiences ensures adherence to the stringent quality standards set by the World Bank.

The event witnessed the participation of key officials, including Trans Nzoia’s KISIP coordinator Ms. Edith Baraza and Kitale Municipal Board Manager Irine Nangole, highlighting the region’s dedication to enhancing living conditions through strategic urban development initiatives.

The KISIP 2 project, supported by the World Bank, aims to uplift infrastructure and living standards in Kenya’s informal settlements, marking a pivotal moment for community upliftment and regional cooperation.
