Sudi Fires Back at Gachagua Over Alleged Tribal Politics

The ongoing political rift within the Rift Valley region seems to be deepening as Kapsaret MP, Oscar Sudi, has hit back at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent comments, calling for an end to tribalism and respect among leaders.

The tensions escalated after Deputy President Gachagua accused certain Rift Valley leaders of orchestrating a rift between him and President William Ruto. Speaking during a church event, Sudi, a staunch ally of Ruto, emphasized the need for leaders to avoid divisive politics and uphold mutual respect.

Gachagua, during a meeting in Kesses, Uasin Gishu county, expressed frustration over alleged maneuvers by some leaders close to President Ruto to influence the 2032 succession politics in Mt. Kenya region, disadvantaging him. He warned against interference in the region’s political affairs and urged leaders to focus on their constituencies.

In response, Sudi defended his engagements beyond his constituency, asserting that such actions were necessary during election campaigns. He maintained that he would continue supporting various initiatives, including church fundraisers, a practice he inherited from Ruto.

The exchange underscores simmering tensions within the Rift Valley political landscape, amidst speculations of a fallout between President Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua. Gachagua’s recent absence from key state functions further fueled speculation, leading to concerns raised by his allies about alleged mistreatment.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri, along with other leaders, voiced their support for Gachagua, cautioning against any mistreatment akin to what Ruto experienced during his tenure as deputy president.
