Huruma Ward MCA Sponsors Over 400 Youths for Driving School
In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering the youth and reducing unemployment, Huruma Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Wakili Kimani Wanjohi has successfully sponsored over 400 young people to complete driving courses at ETTI Driving School.
The one-month program culminated in a graduation ceremony today, marking a significant achievement in MCA Wanjohi’s second term of youth sponsorship.
MCA Wanjohi emphasized the importance of involving youth in leadership and providing them with skills and opportunities.
“The major challenge in Kenya is that youths have not been involved in leadership. It is sad that skills and tenders are given but youths are not involved. We want youth to get opportunities regardless of their background,” Wanjohi stated.
He further asserted that if at least 30 percent of opportunities are given to the youth, unemployment could become a thing of the past.
This year’s driving school sponsorship is part of a broader initiative by MCA Wanjohi to equip the youth with essential skills.
In the current financial year, plans are in place to send more youths to Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) where they will receive training in various trades such as carpentry, masonry, and beauty courses. This initiative aims to empower the youth financially and prepare them for various employment opportunities.
The beneficiaries of the program expressed their gratitude and optimism for the future. Lydia Wanjiru, a resident of Huruma Ward, praised the MCA for the program.
“We are happy that we have acquired the skills to drive vehicles. We have been here for four weeks, and ETTI Driving School has taken us through the driving courses,” she said.
Faldesa Ibrahim echoed this sentiment, saying, “We are happy that we did not have licenses before, but after the training, we now have them.”
John, another beneficiary, expressed his appreciation for the support from the MCA. “Our MCA has helped us, and we are going to get jobs after the driving lessons are over,” he said.
Denis Mtende also thanked MCA Wanjohi for his efforts. “Through this program, we will be employed. It was hard to get such programs, but through his leadership, we are now okay,” he noted.
The driving school sponsorship program reflects MCA Wanjohi’s commitment to youth empowerment and addressing unemployment in Huruma Ward. By providing young people with essential skills and opportunities, he aims to pave the way for a brighter future for the youth of Huruma.
