In the wake of nationwide protests sparked by the controversial finance bill, tranquility has returned to Eldoret. The demonstrations, which initially began as peaceful protests against the finance bill, devolved into violent clashes, resulting in looting and the tragic loss of lives.

Benjamin Natui, MCA of Ngenyilel ward, expressed the community’s relief and gratitude following President William Ruto’s decision to withdraw the finance bill. “We are here because of the protest that we were not happy with since it started as a demonstration against the finance bill but turned violent, where goons stole from businesses, and many lives were lost,” Natui stated.

The president’s decision to engage with the youth and address their concerns directly via the social media platform X has been met with widespread approval. This move is seen as a significant step towards fostering dialogue and understanding between the government and the youth, who were at the forefront of the protests.

“We are happy because President William Ruto has removed the finance bill and has also accepted to talk to the youths through X,” Natui added. The restoration of peace in Eldoret has allowed businesses to resume normal operations, bringing a sense of normalcy back to the community.

Natui urged the youth to express their views constructively and avoid resorting to violence. “We have seen that we had peace in Eldoret and people are going on well with their jobs. We are happy that business is going on as normal for people to do their jobs well. I urge the youth to air their views and not through quarrelling.”

The renewed stability in Eldoret is a testament to the power of dialogue and the importance of addressing the concerns of the youth. As the community moves forward, the emphasis remains on peaceful communication and collaboration to ensure a prosperous future for all.
