As youth-led anti-government protests are set to unfold today, Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has issued a stern warning to those planning to breach the law. While acknowledging the right of citizens to protest, Kanja emphasized the need to balance this right with the responsibility to uphold national security.

In his address, Kanja expressed concern over the potential for the protests to be hijacked by individuals with ulterior motives, including those intending to loot and vandalize property. He stressed that certain areas, deemed as protected, are strictly off-limits and warned that unauthorized individuals entering these zones will face legal repercussions.

“All unauthorized persons are hereby warned not to trespass protected areas,” Kanja stated. “The security of the country is a collective responsibility for all Kenyans.”

The Acting IG also assured the public that the National Police Service is collaborating with other security agencies to maintain order and safeguard the nation. He urged citizens to remain vigilant, especially in crowded areas, and to provide any information that could help in crime prevention.

Kanja reiterated that any violations of the law during the protests will be met with decisive action. “Any person who breaks the law will be dealt with swiftly, firmly, and decisively in accordance with the law,” he warned.
