Coastal Leaders Congratulate Hassan Joho on Cabinet Nomination

Following President William Samoei Ruto’s recent national address where he unveiled several opposition figures nominated to key cabinet positions, coastal leaders have taken to social media to express their congratulations to the nominees, particularly focusing on former Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho.

The announcement, which included Joho’s nomination as Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Marine Affairs, has sparked positive reactions from regional leaders who see this move as a testament to Joho’s capabilities and dedication to public service.

Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Shariff Nassir, in a heartfelt message shared on his social media platforms, commended Joho’s commitment to bringing positive change to the coastal region and beyond. “Your passion for public service and your ability to bring positive change will undoubtedly make a significant impact,” Nassir wrote, expressing confidence in Joho’s upcoming tenure as a Cabinet Secretary.

Similarly, Kilifi Governor Gideon Maitha Mung’aro extended his congratulations to Joho, emphasizing the importance of Joho’s appointment and thanking President Ruto for recognizing Joho’s potential. “I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to my dear brother, H.E Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, the former Governor of Mombasa, on his nomination,” Mung’aro stated, highlighting Joho’s expected contributions to the sectors of Mining and Blue Economy.

President Ruto’s nominations from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have also included prominent figures such as Minority Leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi, who is slated to lead the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, and Nominated MP John Mbadi, earmarked for the Treasury Ministry. Wickliffe Oparanya has been nominated for the Cooperatives Ministry, reflecting a diverse and inclusive approach to cabinet appointments.

As these nominations await approval by the National Assembly, coastal leaders remain optimistic about the impact of Joho’s leadership in advancing the region’s interests, particularly in sectors crucial to its economic and environmental sustainability.
