In a strong show of support for Kenya’s younger generation, Raila Odinga has endorsed the demands of Gen Z, asserting that they are both valid and crucial for the nation’s progress. Speaking at the farewell of Evans Oreunjo in Siaya County, Odinga emphasized that the issues raised by the youth reflect broader national concerns that have been central to his opposition efforts over the past year.

Odinga highlighted that the demands for addressing unemployment, high living costs, corruption, tribalism, and poor governance echo the same grievances that fueled opposition protests last year. He underscored that these challenges are intertwined with the broader governance issues facing Kenya.

“The issues raised by the youth are not just their concerns; they are national issues,” Odinga declared. He called for a re-evaluation of Kenya’s constitution to ensure it supports progressive change and reflects the needs of all Kenyans.

In response to criticism over the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) recent collaboration with the government, Odinga defended the party’s decision. He explained that ODM officials joined the government to contribute their expertise and to ensure that the party’s priorities remain at the forefront of national policy.

“We agreed to provide our experts to the government under the terms of our party’s ethics, ensuring that we continue to advocate for the values and reforms we stand for,” Odinga said.

Odinga reaffirmed his commitment to a brighter future for Kenya, emphasizing that all Kenyans, regardless of background, have a right to participate in transforming the nation. He reiterated that the path to a new Kenya involves collective efforts to address the country’s most pressing issues.

The ODM leader’s remarks reflect a continued commitment to addressing systemic issues and ensuring that the demands of Kenya’s youth are met with serious consideration and action.
