Eldoret to be Upgraded to City Status on August 8th

In a momentous development for the region, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has announced that Eldoret will officially be awarded city status by President William Samoei Ruto on August 8, 2024.

This landmark achievement marks a new chapter in the town’s history, reflecting its rapid growth and significant contributions to Kenya’s economic and social landscape.

Governor Bii, alongside other key regional leaders and representatives from the private sector, gathered for an important meeting to discuss and refine preparations for the prestigious event. Present at the discussions were Governors Hon. Stephen Sang (Nandi), Hon. Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo/Marakwet), and Hon. Jeremiah Lomurukai (Turkana), as well as Senator Jackson Mandago, MP Hon. Julius Ruto, and MCAs led by Speaker Hon. Philip Muigei.

Eldoret has long been recognized for its vibrant agricultural sector, robust investment opportunities, and burgeoning tourism industry. The city status is anticipated to boost these sectors further, enhancing Eldoret’s reputation as a central economic hub in the North Rift Economic Bloc.

Governor Bii urged the residents of Uasin Gishu to mark their calendars for this historic day, emphasizing that the new city status will pave the way for even greater development and prosperity for Eldoret and its surrounding areas.
