Eldoret Prepares for Historic City Status as President Ruto and Governor Bii Lead Celebrations
In a significant milestone for the region, Eldoret is set to be elevated to city status with a ceremonial handover of the city charter on August 8, 2024.
His Excellency President William Ruto will grace the occasion, presenting the charter to Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, marking a pivotal moment in the town’s history.
In advance of this historic event, Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Philip Muigei, alongside Governor Bii, hosted a crucial meeting with regional leaders to discuss the upcoming celebrations and strategic plans for the city’s future. The gathering included key figures from the North Rift region, reflecting the collaborative spirit that has characterized the area’s recent development.
Notable attendees included Hon. Stephen Sang, the Member of Parliament for Nandi and Chairman of the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB), Hon. Wisley Rotich of Elgeyo Marakwet, Hon. Jeremiah Lomurukai of Turkana, and the Senator for Uasin Gishu, Hon. Jackson Mandago. Also present were Hon. Eng. Alex Tolgos, Hon. Caleb Kositany, and Hon. CPA Julius Rutto, alongside members of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly.
