Women leaders from the Kenya Kwanza coalition launched a nationwide campaign on Monday urging youths to halt anti-government protests and engage in dialogue.

The campaign, led by National Assembly Speaker Gladys Boss Sholei and Deputy Majority Whip Naomi Waqo, seeks to promote peace and stability amid ongoing unrest.

During a visit to Marsabit County, the leaders highlighted the adverse impact of violence on women and children. They stressed the importance of peaceful solutions and reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the youth.

“President William Ruto has a good plan for Kenyans. Let us support him to continue with his work,” Sholei stated. The leaders expressed confidence in Ruto’s intention to engage with the youth and women through constructive dialogue.

Other prominent women leaders involved in the campaign included Faith Gitau, Betty Maina, Beatrice Adagala, Leah Sankaire, and Liza Chelule. Their appeal comes shortly after widespread protests erupted across Kenya, with demonstrators accusing Ruto of failing to meet campaign promises.

In response to the demonstrations, Ruto took several measures to address public discontent. He withdrew the contentious Finance Bill, which proposed significant tax increases, dismissed nearly all of his cabinet secretaries, and accepted the resignation of Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.

The Kenya Kwanza women leaders’ campaign aims to restore calm and foster a collaborative environment for resolving the issues raised by the protesters.
