On the final day of cabinet nominee vetting, Hassan Ali Joho, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominee for the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Marine Affairs, addressed concerns about his education and business dealings.

Joho, the former governor of Mombasa, faced scrutiny over his educational qualifications. Acknowledging his past academic challenges, he stated, “Yes, I received a D- in high school.

However, I have made significant progress and am currently pursuing a degree from a prestigious university. If approved, I am committed to earning a PhD and contributing positively to our nation.”

Regarding his business ventures, Joho sought to dispel rumors of illicit activities. “My family and I are involved in legitimate business practices. Any reports suggesting otherwise should be reviewed in full context. I assure you that my businesses adhere to all legal standards,” he said.

Joho’s nomination is part of a broader list of ODM members proposed for cabinet positions. If confirmed, Joho will lead the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy, and Marine Affairs, overseeing critical sectors of Kenya’s economic development.
