Jim Wanjigi’s Family Faces Police Raid Amidst Alleged Political Harassment
In a dramatic turn of events, police have raided the residence of Jim Wanjigi, a prominent Kenyan politician, as part of what his supporters and legal team are calling political victimization.
The raid comes in the wake of the #NaneNane protests led by youth groups advocating for significant reforms in Kenya.
Wanjigi, a well-known figure in Kenyan politics, has been at odds with the government on several occasions. His lawyer, Osiemo, has denounced the police action as political harassment. “This is clearly political harassment, a tactic that has been used against Wanjigi before. We are prepared for any situation that may arise. This is all politics,” Osiemo stated.
The tension surrounding Wanjigi’s family was further amplified by statements from his son, Maina Wanjigi, who echoed the lawyer’s sentiments. “It’s not the first time we’ve been raided. Whenever we pose a threat to them politically, they respond with these raids. This is about political freedom. Why should expressing an opinion against the government lead to such victimization?” Maina questioned.
The police raid highlights the ongoing friction between Wanjigi’s camp and the government, raising concerns about the state of political freedom and the treatment of dissenting voices in Kenya.
