Raila Odinga Intensifies African Union Chairperson Campaigns with DRC Visit
Raila Odinga has ramped up his campaign for the African Union (AU) Chairperson position with a strategic visit to Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). During his visit, Odinga met with DRC President Félix Tshisekedi, discussing key issues such as security, development, and climate change.
Odinga took to social media to share insights from his meeting with Tshisekedi, highlighting their focus on fundamental issues crucial for regional prosperity and sustainability. He expressed gratitude for Tshisekedi’s endorsement and support for his candidacy to replace Moussa Faki as AU Chairperson.
“Our conversation centered on the foundational issues of security, development, and climate change—essential for creating lasting prosperity and advancing our shared future. I thank him for his support and endorsement,” Odinga posted.
Following his DRC visit, Odinga hosted a meeting with Eng. Shammah Kiteme, President of the Institute of Engineers of Kenya (IEK). At the event, Odinga received the IEK’s endorsement and engaged in discussions about the welfare and professional development of engineers.
Odinga praised the increasing representation of women engineers globally, including in Kenya, and expressed his satisfaction with their support for his AU bid. “I’m happy to receive their support for my AUC bid and delighted that many more women are now engineers in Kenya,” he wrote on his social media account.
