In a significant move to improve family planning services in Uasin Gishu County, the County Government has partnered with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH). On Monday morning, representatives from these organizations convened at MTRH to unveil a new program aimed at enhancing the county’s family planning capabilities.

The initiative is particularly focused on expanding post-pregnancy family planning services. The goal is to ensure that patients leaving the hospital are provided with family planning methods, thereby increasing coverage and helping to lower maternal and perinatal mortality rates.

Dr. Paul Wangwe, Chief Officer of Promotive and Preventive Health, emphasized the importance of effective family planning in improving health outcomes and alleviating pressure on healthcare systems. He highlighted the critical role of mentorship and training for healthcare providers in delivering these services, which empower women and families to make informed reproductive health choices.

Dr. Joyce Sang, Chief Officer of Clinical Services, reiterated the commitment to enhancing access to family planning resources. “Through mentorship and training, we are creating a robust support system for healthcare providers, ensuring that every woman receives the care and information needed to make the best decisions for her health and her family,” Dr. Sang stated.

In addition to the program introduction, the stakeholders, led by Senior Director of Administration Dr. Benjamin Tarus, agreed to formalize their collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to establish a clear operational framework for the initiative and ensure a collaborative working relationship among all parties involved.

“This partnership is not just about introducing a new program; it’s about enhancing the overall health services available to the residents of Uasin Gishu County,” Dr. Tarus said. “We believe that by working together, we can significantly reduce maternal and child mortality rates and promote better health outcomes for our community.”

The MoU is expected to facilitate the smooth implementation of the program and foster a collaborative effort to improve family planning services in the county.
