Uasin Gishu County Assembly to Vet Deputy Governor Nominee Evans Kapkea
Uasin Gishu County Assembly is scheduled to vet Evans Kapkea on Tuesday for the position of Deputy Governor, a role that has been vacant since Eng. John Barorot’s resignation in August. Kapkea, aged 34, has previously served as the Member of the County Assembly for Tembelio Ward and is poised to become the county’s third deputy governor if approved.
Eng. Barorot resigned from the deputy governor position on August 21, 2024, to assume the role of Chief Executive Officer at an international ICT firm. This transition has prompted the county assembly to seek a new deputy governor to support Governor Jonathan Bii.
Kapkea’s nomination has received strong support from Uasin Gishu MCAs, with Gilbert Lagat, the representative for Kiplombe ward, leading the endorsement. Lagat highlighted Kapkea’s extensive experience and his capability to serve as deputy governor. Kapkea has previously chaired the Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, and Investment Committee and has been an active member of the Budget, Finance and Appropriations Committee, Health Committee, and Delegated Legislation.
The vetting process will determine if Kapkea will successfully step into the role and continue his service to Uasin Gishu County.
