Nawiri Fund Suppliers to be Paid Next Week- Governor Natembeya
Governor George Natembeya on Thursday directed the Department of Finance to immediately pay the suppliers who provided goods to the county under the Nawiri Fund.
Natembeya questioned the Trade Department about the delay in payment,with an emphasis that the suppliers were small-scale businesses and should have been paid promptly.
Finance Chief Officer Emmanuel Masungo acknowledged the delay, citing technical and time-related issues.
He however assured the governor and suppliers that the funds would be disbursed by next week.
He also reported that a payment of sh.3.5 million had already been made, with the remaining sh.71 million to be settled within a week.
The governor issued the directive during a meeting in his boardroom, where chief officers were signing their performance contracts.
Governor Natembeya also ordered that the street cleaning function be transferred from the Department of Environment to Kitale Municipality.
Both the Human and financial resources previously allocated to the Environment Department will be reallocated to the municipality, which will now handle the responsibility.
During the event, the chief officers committed to fulfilling their roles and responsibilities over the next year.
The senior government officials signed the contracts between themselves and their respective CECMs on behalf of the county government.
Among those who signed were Masungo(Finance),Sammy Sichangi (Governance), Dr. Wanjala Majimoto (Livestock), Patrick Osoro (Agriculture) and Philip Kapten (Public Service Management).
Others are Dorothy Nyukuri (Water and Environment), Dr. Judith Simiyu (Health),Omari Ndiema(Trade), Dianah Wabwile (County Solicitor), and Irene Nang’ole (Municipal Manager).
The ceremony was also attended by Deputy Governor Philomena Kapkory and County Secretary Truphosa Amere, who presided over the event.
