Uasin Gishu Governor Flags Off Ksh 43 Million Drug Consignment to Boost Healthcare Services
Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii spearheaded the launch of a significant healthcare initiative on Monday by flagging off a consignment of drugs valued at Ksh 43 million. This consignment, provided directly by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), is set for distribution to all 138 healthcare facilities across Uasin Gishu County.
The move represents a substantial effort to enhance healthcare delivery within the region. During the ceremony, Governor Dr. Bii underscored the critical role of efficient procurement and supply chain management in maintaining uninterrupted healthcare services. He acknowledged the county’s commitment to timely orders but also called upon KEMSA to address recurring issues with delays and insufficient supplies that have previously impacted service delivery.
“We are committed to ensuring that our healthcare services remain uninterrupted, and this begins with a reliable supply chain. I urge KEMSA to resolve the persistent delays in deliveries so that residents can receive the medical attention they need without hindrance,” Governor Dr. Bii stated.
Governor Bii also appealed to the Ministry of Health to accelerate the procurement process for medical supplies, emphasizing the need for timely provision of essential medications and services to the community.
“We are fully dedicated to strengthening and expanding healthcare services to meet the needs of our community. Every resident deserves access to quality healthcare, and we must work together to make that a reality,” he added.
In addition to the drug consignment launch, Governor Bii visited the Kapteldon Sub County Hospital, where he inspected ongoing development projects. This included a completed X-ray block and various construction and renovation works. He praised the hospital staff for their dedication to service delivery and their efforts to maintain a clean and efficient environment.
“I want to commend this facility for its timely service delivery and for maintaining a clean environment. It is essential for our healthcare providers to be punctual and diligent in their roles to enhance the care we provide to our residents,” Dr. Bii remarked.
The event was attended by County Executives Dr. Abraham Serem (Health), Micah Rogony (Finance), Chief Officers Dr. Joyce Sang (Clinical Services) and Dr. Paul Wangwe (Promotive and Preventive Health), as well as Simat/Kapseret Member of the County Assembly Hon. Moses.
