Local Farmers Boost Coffee Production with New Initiatives
In a significant push to enhance the cultivation of high-value crops, local farmers are set to expand their coffee acreage by an additional 600 acres, bringing the total to 2,062 acres. This initiative aims to increase productivity and meet growing market demands.
To support this expansion, over 383,000 seedlings have recently been distributed to farmers throughout the county. This effort is part of a broader strategy to empower local producers and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
Collaboration with cooperative unions is at the heart of this initiative, focusing on value addition and efficient processing solutions for raw coffee. The Coffee Management Service (CMS) mills in Eldoret play a crucial role in this endeavor, ensuring that coffee cherries are processed to the highest standards. This facility not only enhances the quality of the coffee produced but also establishes direct connections between farmers and the market.
“This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing the livelihoods of our farmers and boosting the local economy,” said a representative from the Coffee Management Service. “By improving both cultivation and processing techniques, we are laying the groundwork for a sustainable future in coffee production.”
As the region continues to embrace innovative agricultural practices, the commitment to supporting local farmers remains a priority, with expectations for a prosperous coffee industry on the horizon.
