Progressive FCS Ray Farm in Karuna Meibeki Ward Receives First Maize Drier
In a significant boost for local farmers, Progressive Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS) Ray Farm in Karuna Meibeki ward has received its first maize drier, fulfilling a key promise made to the farming community. This marks a major milestone, as farmers in the area will no longer need to travel long distances to Eldoret to access drying services at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) stores.
The new maize drier will soon be operational and is set to transform local agricultural practices, ensuring that farmers can efficiently dry their maize closer to home, reducing transportation costs and post-harvest losses. Once fully operational, the facility is also expected to serve as a maize buying center, providing farmers with a convenient market for their produce.
Speaking on the development, Moiben MP Prof. Phylis Bartoo emphasized the importance of the facility in strengthening food security and empowering farmers in Karuna Meibeki. “This drier will not only reduce the burden on farmers but will also provide a reliable market. It is a step forward in enhancing the livelihoods of our farming community,” she said.
The Progressive FCS initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote agricultural development in Moiben, with future plans to further improve infrastructure and support for local farmers.
The opening of the maize buying center is expected to happen in the coming weeks, offering local farmers immediate access to critical services and markets.
