In a commendable effort to promote environmental conservation and enhance educational resources, Likuyani Member of Parliament Innocent Mugabe has launched the second phase of the distribution of 1,500 Hass avocado seedlings, funded through the Likuyani NG-CDF environment kitty. This initiative aims to provide both ecological benefits and financial support for school activities.

During the launch event, MP Mugabe emphasized the importance of the Hass avocado farming initiative in addressing environmental challenges while simultaneously generating income for schools. “By engaging our students and communities in avocado farming, we not only contribute to environmental conservation but also create sustainable income streams that will help support various school activities,” he stated.

The beneficiary schools in this phase include St. Jude Seregeya Secondary, St. Henry Saisi Boys Secondary, St. Henry Saisi Girls Secondary, St. John the Baptist Likuyani Boys, St. Augustine Soysambu Secondary, and St. Anne’s Nzoia Girls Secondary. Each institution will receive a portion of the Hass avocado seedlings, which will be cultivated as part of an educational curriculum designed to teach students about sustainable farming practices.

Mugabe added, “Our young people are the future stewards of our environment. By equipping them with knowledge and practical skills in farming, we empower them to take active roles in preserving our natural resources and enhancing their livelihoods.”

The Hass avocado initiative not only focuses on the economic benefits but also aims to establish learning centers that educate students and community members on the intricacies of avocado farming. This holistic approach is expected to cultivate a generation that values sustainability and is equipped with the skills needed to thrive in a changing world.

As the distribution progresses, MP Mugabe expressed optimism about the positive impact of the initiative, stating, “We are building a legacy of environmental stewardship and economic empowerment through education and sustainable farming. Together, we can create a brighter future for our community.”

This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing environmental issues and supporting the education sector in Likuyani, setting a precedent for similar programs across the region. The MP’s commitment to both education and environmental conservation has garnered praise from local leaders and community members, highlighting the vital role of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable development.
